I ventured out to Venice this past weekend to give my HVX its first field test. The following footage is unaltered for the most part, except for 4 or so shots that were underexposed and, as a result, have some visible noise. Otherwise, please enjoy!
H.264 Quicktime. Recorded at 720 PN, 24fps and 60 fps. (1 min, 10 sec)
20.6 MB, 640x360

Say, when I look at the HD version, why is there so much noise? Is that normal for the HVX, expecially when you consider, that it is only 720p. What then about 1080p?

Some really nice shots here, nicely exposed and really demonstrated the resolving power of the HVX. I didn't notice any noise in these clips.

As I explained before, the two biggest noise offender shots are the opening shot and the third wide shot (magenta-toned). I was using the LCD screen to judge exposure since the camera was on the ground, a noob mistake I know, and their levels had to be brought up in FCP. However, I'm quite pleased with the cleanliness of the rest of the footage.
Glad you enjoyed them. I tried to intercut some real-time shots for comparison with the 60fps capability.

I just got an PM that the HVX is terribly noisy. Can't wait to test it myself. But so far, this is the first video where I saw noise.
Update: I just had another look at the HD version. The noise is just terrible! You must have done something wrong, must imagine how the noise must be in 1080p. Not even the cheapset cam has that noise.Last edited by Pascal_Parvex; 04-04-2006 at 09:31 AM.

There is noise on the HVX but it's only the same as the DVX if not less so. It seems to be noisy in mid-tones, not the entire image (the DVX seemed to be noisy in all black/grey parts of the image) and in my experience is that if it is well exposed you don't see any noise at all.

Nice, not as cool as HV and J but still looked good in the LG view.

Good looking stuff bro. There's a bit of noise, but who's to say if it wasn't from the compression and the quicktime. I've had that same thing happen with my footage... and to be honest, only people on this site are gonna even see it.... Most people at home will be loving it.
Also, did you see the gradiant in the sky... Great looking sky, without it being blown out. I could never pull that off with the DV stuff...
And i'm sure someone will chime in about being able to do this slow-mo with an HDV camera in post.. but that's just a load of CRAP. The slow motion with the fast shutter is sick... simply sick.
I also shoot all my exteriors via the viewfinder. LCD outdoors is not a viable option... the VF is also a lot easier for focus.....
keep up the shooting brother... and the guy chiming in is from Switzerland... so challeng him to a fight... LOL. I'm sure he'll back down then. JK... having some fun here...
When I get the FCUp update I'll post some of my skating footage. Looked unbelievable...
