    For what it's worth:

The German video magazine "Videoaktiv Digital" reports in its current issue (3/2006) that a preproduction version of the HVX 200E shows "significantly" higher resolution than a preproduction NTSC version. The higher rez of the PAL version is said to be almost on par with that of the Sony Z1E. Since this was just a fist-look kinda deal, a more in-depth review is to follow in the next issue.

If what they said about the higher rez proves to be true then maybe having to wait a little longer for the PAL version is not such a bad thing.

I've just read the article and there is really hope that the PAL model will have a better 720p/1080i performance than the NTSC model. Why? Dunno. Better tuning? Maybe even higher res chips? The magazine rates the res of the PAL preprod model to 610 lines h and 700v in 1080i, the res of the NTSC preprod model to 500h, 600v in 720p and 1080i alike.

Could be that this test does not say anything since they've used preproduction models...

    Still. I'm excited :-D

Yap, you could be right, but they have a PAL-model resolution chart shot printed in their magazine. Could be made up. But then... I don't think so!

I also agree saying that the PAL model has new chips is both unlikely and wild speculation. We'll see. They could have "tuned" the cam a bit better.

Doesn't make a lot of sense -- the current model is already identical in res to a Z1U.

Their numbers for the NTSC model are astoundingly low. I've shown a chart with the NTSC model that shows better res than they're claiming for the PAL model, at about 630h and 730v.

There has been speculation that DVCPRO HD luminance resolution for 720p/50 will be 1280x720 (v 960x720 for 60 Hz) - maybe this is what is being spotted here? Just a thought.........

As far as I'm concerned, it will be interesting to read the (final?) results once they have put the PAL model of the HVX through the same tests (with tons of measurements) they developed for HDV cameras. To bad the next issure won't be out until the middle of May.

Dream on... The "PAL" thing will be the same as the "NTSC' thing with a different software and SD processing. (THIS PART DELETED: REASON- TROLLING)- rely on your creativity to make it look good, that's the secret...

After seeing the NTSC HVX fotage projected at 2K resolution i can tell you there is nothing to worry about when it come to resolution, noise or detail. Shoot and be happy, Pal or NTSC you have amazing imaging potential at your fingertips.

2K proj'n of HVX200 footage was at Varicam quality. When I saw the Varicam, I was expecting my heart to drop. It didn't. But Illya's stuff on the HVX was on par if not better than the Varicam, all playing off HDCAM SR on the same projector. Like Evin said, shoot away...
