    Red X Warning

I have searched the manual, barry's book, and this site but cannot seem to find anything about this. If I'm foolishly missing something obvious , please point me to it.

Today while shooting I had a flashing red x come up in the display. I've never seen this. I assume it's a warning of some kind. I powered down and it was gone, but I'm very curious what it is. Should I be concerned?

    Thanks for tips.

The red X is an indicator of dirty heads.

More on "Red X" in viewfinder of 100A. Get the "X" during record and tapes do NOT play back in camera BUT playback fine in a separate deck. Soooo.... tried to clean heads per "Sticky's" suggestion with chamois etc and still unable to get playback from the camera, but tapes look great playing in another camera.

Either I didn't get the head clog fixed OR there is something wrong in the playback circuit.

Camera will be off to Macie Video on 2/22 .... would appreciate any insights on this issue.

    Hey,
    Try 99% Isoprophal alcohol and a chamois. It can’t be 70, 80, or 90%. That’s for back bubs … 99%
If that's no go, then call the shop...

    Good Luck !

Red X Happened To Me This Weekend Too! Pro-Head Cleaning Tips--please!

I was literally just thinking about getting a professional head cleaning and low and behold the red x means it's time. I've used a sony head cleaning tape which I've used for other cameras and haven't had a problem. Is there a specific head cleaning tape that's recommended for DVX100A?

I've also got the mack warrany, but I can't afford to send my camera away for weeks on end. I'm in Manhattan--is there any low-cost solution or simply a list of pro-head cleaning places with quick turnaround? I appreciate any light on this subject--as I can't afford to have the camera away for too long nor could I afford for it to break down! Thanks for all your help!

Wow, perfect timing. I was shooting some behind the scenes at NYC, I saw the redX and it made me worried for abit. I have a maxell head cleaning tape, will this do the trick? I want to avoid sending this off if all possible!
