I like these shots alot. It's too bad we have to result to butchering them to get our preffered aspect ratio.
Makes me want to go play me some Vice City."Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead."

Thanks.
I dunno -- shooting 4:3 gives you a little more wiggle room. Not that we ever make mistakes . . .

Not only that, but 35mm film is 4:3...they get a 1.85 ratio by cropping, too. So it's not really that bad when you think about it...

And remember that 16:9 is *not* 1.85; it's 1.78 -- so it's not *quite* as wide as 1.85. Even if you have 16:9 CCDs, you'd still have to crop.
My preferred aspect ratio is 2.35, though.

Though, the above pics illustrate a couple of things . . .
Uncropped, they're pretty much snapshots. Cropped, they look like movies.
But they DO give a little momentum to the noisy anti-widescreen crowd who think the black bars are hiding some of the picture . . .
:o

Well, they *are* hiding the picture, everything in 1.85 anyways. Even a lot of 2.35 movies are "hiding" the picture, when they're shot in Super35 (like Lord of the Rings, for example). But us enlightened folk know that it's better regardless; widescreen kicks ass! ;)
