Today Frys Electronics went out of business.
Sad.

Fry's in Burbank was where I saw my first flat screen TV - a 46" Philips plasma with a $14,000 price tag. It was barely connected to a source and the picture was mostly snow. In SD.

Fry's in Dallas was where I saw my first flat screen using the soap opera effect processor for a movie. I thought, WTF is that?
But they had everything, Fluke Instruments, electronic circuit board parts, soldering supplies.

Frys was unique - a vast wonderland of tech where you could get hands-on experience with all the products. There's never been anything quite like it and probably never will be again.

I remember almost two years ago seeing reports on their shelves clearing out, fry’s being a ghost town, etc. some people did vlog reports on this and managers and staff all had the line that things were totally well and they were clearing old stock and switching vendors, etc. always seemed fishy. I even called last December a couple months ago and asked and received the same answer. Never really believed it.
So, I suppose the inevitable is here. And from a business perspective I get it but the dishonesty always rubs me wrong. Who knows what happens behind the scenes.
In any case, I will absolutely miss frys. Sad day. Lots of memories here over the years building computers, shopping home theater, etc. another victim of the changing landscape.

Yeah think about 14,00 employees (2018) and then of your Amazon purchases.

One of my favorite stores. You could buy just about any electronic device or component at Fry's.

When all the brick and mortar are gone, we may realize just how much we missed wandering these museums of products with a bunch of geeks to point us in the right direction. I'll be telling my kids about it someday and they'll look at me like I used to look at my dad talking about an 8 track tape.

The First time I drove to Frys in Burbank and saw this, I knew this store was something special.
