If matching colors is a concern, you might want to check out our new camera matching software CineMatch - it makes matching colors between different brands (e.g. Panasonic, Canon, Sony, Blackmagic, RED, Arri and more) easy, and might allow you to squeeze some more use out of your S1H for the near future until you're ready to upgrade.

I’ve bought CineMatch, but I’m waiting for it to support the C300Mk3 AND the R5. Seems like these cameras probably should have come before some of the oddballs on your support list... but maybe there’s something there I’m not getting. CineMatch supports the Sony RX0, a couple of RX100 models, the Panasonic DVX200... even the C70... but no support for the R5 or C300 Mark III. Puzzling.

Any word on support for these cams?

We're working on the FCP version now, have to rewrite the plugin for FxPlug4 framework, but that portion of the job is nearly done. Keep an eye out for an announcement in the near future

Canon R5 and R6 profiles will be in the next update, coming very soon. We're working on ramping up our camera pack support, the older models in the list were cameras we already supported in FilmConvert and we could leverage the data to use in CineMatch, but we need to accelerate our pace for the newer cameras on the market

John thanks for your input. I’m using cinematch and can confirm it works almost magically when cameras are supported.

I’m using it to convert Pocket 6k footage > C200 because that’s the closest match available for my C300mk3.

It’s a tad painful because a) I’m a FCP user and need to do the conversion in Resolve, then export files and import to FCP, and b) the C300mkiii has been out quite a while now and it’s not supported - so it means tweaking things again as the look comes close but not quite right.

I do love the product, just needs FCP & C300mk3 support, then I’d highly recommend it. Soooo much faster and more accurate than trying to manually match cameras (and I’m reasonably experienced at grading).

Yeah. I’m a little puzzled why the C70 got support sooner than the C300 Mark III and R5/R6 that have been out a LOT longer.

For those interested, I did end up trading my S1H in for an R5. After filming on the R5 on a few shoots now, I can say it was 100% the right decision. Having colours that match my C300 out the can just saves so much time in post and the AF combined with a gimbal has enabled me to get shots I could simply not do with the S1H. The overheating was the issue I was concerned about but I've not had any issues. For longer form interview content I put it out the Ninja-V and it runs for hours and for b-roll i've shot internally in the 4k HQ mode and at 4k 120fps with no issues for a couple of hours staring and stopping as you do. With the addition of C-log3 and cinema raw light coming to the R5 soon, I feel it was a great investment.

That's my experience too. Since I have the C300iii R5 I have let so many people walk towards the camera like never before. Because it's that easy if you just have to take care for framing and not framing and focus pulling as a solo shooter. Same on the gimbal.
