There is a risk that the used prices for the GH5 and GH5S suffer a sudden dip if/when a GH6 arrives.

I say this because I think Panasonic might make the GH6 slightly cheaper than previous models (especially the high launch price of the GH5S) as a response to full-frame cameras including its own, leaving room for and requiring the GH6 to be clearly cheaper.

But this is a bad reason to not buy a camera that you can use now. Who knows when a GH6 might arrive.

You are right Samuel, we don't know when the GH6 might arrive.. nor when it will be fully functional (I'm thinking about first issues, Beta testers "despite themselves" and indispensable updates).
New stuff ? Wait and examine it one year before buying.

I own both and shoot with both a lot. Or at least I did. I've been using my P4k pair a lot more lately.
    Dumb question: what is IBIS?
Considering a GH5S but no clue what functionality this is that would be missing.

In body image stabilization. Like image stabilization in a lens, but done by shifting and rotating the sensor. So you can have image stabilization on every lens

Got it. Thank you. Have not been round in a while and keeping up.
So I could still use a lense with OIS on the GH5S but obviously not be as effective as using an OIS lense on a camera body having IBIS.

Basically yes. I think the IBIS is more effective than ois. In order to use both simultaneously, it may need to be a dual IS capable lens, I can't remember. Dual IS works incredibly well.

But there is the usual caveat: if you want complete motion control, you don't want IBIS. But personally I like IBIS because most of the time I'm happy to have help smoothing things out

Very helpful to know. This definitely puts me in a toss-up between the 5 and 5S.
Either way, your comments are helpful--really appreciate it.

Welcome in the Guild of Undecided.
I don't know what is the best way to get rid of internal compression without adding too much mess around.. All-in-one GH5S or 400 grams Video Assist 5" to stay with GH4 & F3 ?
    Suspense.
