I like some of the stuff I have seen. But I think the gap between most camera's in this price range and even above is really close, and most differences come down to the user and their tastes or ability:

I really like Juan Melara's footage on the Komodo:

There was also this, shot by Lawrence Sher the DP of "The Joker":

ah well, can all come out in the grading. Just thought it was an interesting choice, but also might just be the way people grade.

    EDIT:

The grading in this video has white blown out parts, although, this one was also one of the more "video" looking ones, if going by the comments section. Not that the comments section is the place to get good perspective.

Regardless, it is still a 12+ stop Global Shutter 2lbs camera.
Since I've never shot or graded RED footage before, I'm definitely no expert, but I have read about how you can dial in the roll-off with REDRAW. I'm not sure if getting super-aggressive with that nets that effect or not.

I have been using low con and very soft roll off, and never got that, however, i have seen some log workflows that end up looking like that. So maybe it is just the way some are grading their footage.

In any case, the price point has been lowered yet again, so bound to see ever varying levels of quality

Komodo, with the right batch of accessories (and you need a lot of accessories), seems really appealing to me.

Having to crop into 5k for 48fps is a little annoying, but other than that, it's mainly just the single video output that really gives me pause (along with flex from the RF mount, and all the various little bugs that have popped up in the beta test program), but at that price. Carrying a pair of them at all times isn't all that unfeasible.

The small-medium camera landscape is getting ridiculous, iphone included.

Agreed. The new AF on the Canon R5 and Sony A7SIII have made me a believer and it now gives me pause when considering any camera that is not on that level as I am a solo shooter.

Tests are beginning to roll in. A lot of good shots that showcase the dynamic range in this video:
