Maybe they're counting on you to stop down the iris? Live events and remote operation are not necessarily shallow DOF-dependent. At my geographical latitude, even in harsh summer sun I can expose at ISO 160 1/50 shutter and f/11, 16, or 22. It's never brighter than that for me, or maybe I have to go down to ISO 100 worst case.

This is basically just a Z Cam E2 with Panny branding, right?

Yep you can even throw the shutter speed up to 1000 or even 10000

it never occured to me that those are 'legitimate' methods of operating a camera .. I wonder what the panny engineers think.

(clearly the motion cadence would be terrible to my eye)

Sure Im not thinking that the ability to shoot at 1.2 in the sun is a requirement.

ND is fairly normal in video cameras.. its in the EVA1 AF100 and most canon/sony have them

Don't get me wrong - I think it should have ND. I'm just postulating about how they think it will be used.

I didnt say anything about boosting your shutter speed! I'd definitely take deep focus and some diffraction over 1/1000 shutter for these purposes

That it's got Genlock is surprising at this price point, maybe it's aimed at multi-cam streaming and the like

Maybe we'll see ND if they release an altered EF version:

With dual video outputs (SDI, HDMI) and timecode, I think this actually pretty appealing for just $2k. Chuck a Speedbooster on it or ask the folks at Kippertie for an MFT version of their Revolva ND lens adapters, and you'd have something pretty handy. And with both SDI and full-sized HDMI outputs, the external recorders most people have lying around these days will work just fine.

    400Mbps 10-bit 4:2:2 only up to 30fps (it's 200mbps 10-bit 4:2:0 for 50/60fps) is my only real gripe with it.

It’s not a bad thing but who hasn’t got a couple of gh4s lying around or a bmc micro - I’ve got both - and that screen on the gh4 is very handy for trimming a remote setup

So unless you need 6 and are a proper events company I can’t see Joe normal (professional op) buying one?
