I've tried now with 2 mbp2009, both running 10.11 (El Capitan).
Both crash at the end of copying p2 card (16GB).

    Anything to do?
How long this has been like this?

Try another different computer, software, card reader and/or camera.

If there is only one file that is 16GBs long, you may need to convert it manually. If there's not then any "crash" at the end of copying should have only affected the last file.

    Got it figured out then.
The problem was ext. hdd, G-tech's 2.5" without ext. power socket.
Those old macbooks have only usb2 and they can't give enough juice for this usb3 connected drive.

Why copying a file to a flakey drive crashes the whole OS is a question to Apple.
Maybe recent os's are better this way, hopefully?
