Yes. The F35 and Genesis absolutely use the same sensor. Any allusion to the contrary from either side is just marketing speak aimed at separation.

    For the record:

F35 is ISO 450, 12-13 stops dynamic range

    Genesis ISO 320, 10 stops

D21 ISO 200, but really better used at 100. About 9 stops

The ISO 800 camera was the SRW-9000PL, which again uses the same sensor as the F35, but because it was released later had some updates the F35 didn't. It was upgraded to ISO 800 and supposedly better dynamic range. Although both claims are debatable when compared to the F35. Hard to really tell the difference.

    I hope that helps.

But isn't the F35 really ISO 320 as well? It's 450 only in Extended mode, but 320 in Normal mode. To my eyes Extended mode looked like electronic gain and the noise in the shadows was quite bad. I only shoot in Normal mode now, much better image overall. The cost is lower sensitivity of course.

The genesis is not 320 its 400.. I have quite a large folder full of papers from Panavision stating the sensitivity of the camera among other things. I will never say that the genesis on paper is better than the F35, it is not, I will say however how it captures and processes the image data from the sensor is different from the F35. If the sensor is the same, it really does not mean much given the rest of the electronics in the cameras are different. Genesis and F35 are pulling different types of information out of said sensor and the OLPF filters on the cameras are different as well (just like what Panavision did with their OLPF on the F900 when they modified it). The genesis and F35 DO come from the same mold, but their images are different.

Update: The genesis will be finished with modifications tomorrow afternoon. Here's what I was able to acomplish....

    1. Modified the M42 Lens to Panavision using a Dremel tool and the body cap that came with the camera. Also added an optical element to the back to the lens to reach perfect infinity focus
    2. Modified my HDVF200 to attach to the Genesis properly
    3. Modified the bottom dovetail plate and added threaded screw mounts for my tripod
    4. Added a 15mm Rail system to the bottom follow focus dovetail area

If I could find more of those Panavision Body caps, I could potentially make a whole fleet of Primes for my camera. Will share pictures when its complete. Dremel's are a life saver!

    For All Who Care....

The Genesis Project of mine is finished! I decided to not attach the rods just yet as I dont need them right now. Here is a pic of just the body finished with a lens properly mounted.

Also included some fast/rough footage to test everything worked. Exposure is off a bit as was my quick grade. Just DeLoged using the GDP Box, nothing fancy.

    Nice job!

I suggest asking Mike Tapa how much he'd sell you Panavision port caps for. Explain your needs and how many you might want and he might be willing to part with them for a decent price. He also ight be willing to make something for you instead. You could also ask Les Bosher. They're both used to doing such custom work and the prices may be more reasonable than you expect, especially for something as simple as a PV port cap.
