We'll see if they're successful. I think the UK started with that approach and changed course when they realized how many people would die.

Part of the Swedish outcome may hinge on how healthy their general population is to begin with. Younger people can have a severe case of covid or die if they have comorbidities. And the American public, for example, is not that healthy.

Frankly, I'd be surprised if practically every country besides Sweden was just overreacting. But good luck to them.

I just learned that coronavirus-infected people infect an average of 2-3 other people. Influenza sufferers only infect 1.3 people on average. Coronavirus is much more contagious.

I actually posted about that in the Contagion thread.

It's called R0 (R-naught) and it's the reproduction number of an infection.

Older studies - 10+ years ago - had seasonal influenza at 1.3-1.6, but some studies now show it higher above 2 (has it strengthened?), which would make it as contagious - more likely slightly less depending on the exact comparison - as COVID-19 (based on the latter's current research).

However, I wouldn't be surprised if this coronavirus kept increasing as it continues to infect people.

[The virus in Contagion jumped from R2 to R4.]

Sorry, but in my opinion, that site is total baloney.
Apart from the fact that we can't make predictions based on the number of people tested, a lockdown spreads infections over time it does not diminish total infections over time because when the lockdown is eventually over (you can't be in lockdown forever) then the infections start again as if no time was elapsed.

The suggestion that a lockdown avoids people getting infected over time is an illusion.

I wish the state of Colorado would lockdown... Denver County is sheltering in place tomorrow... I live two counties south of Denver so no lockdown for me. They are leaving all the parks open and they are getting overloaded, people are going to get sick.. Colorado is a heavily populated state of young people and not to stereotype but most kids dont listen to what adults have to say, esp the hippies out here lol ( I know I didnt at their age ). Youth heavy states like Colorado need to lockdown. Our cases are going up quite a bit.
