I have a scene where my characters are cooking a rat over a camp fire and then eating it. The story takes place in the far future. So the question is does anyone know what can be used that would look like a rat cooking over the fire and the meat the character is eating looks like a rat? I wonder if I need to do CGI for the rat over the fire and then cook chicken for them to eat? Any thoughts?

Squirrel. Available in the UK. May be hard to find in the States.

    Also for Christmas diner.

In Belgium cooked Rat is called 'water rabbit' and it is on the menu. So just cook it and eat it.

    I found this recipe: https://www.smulweb.nl/recepten/1008249/Waterkonijn

Use Google Translate and you get this:

    Preparation
A rat (Ondatra zibethicus) is not easily available in the Netherlands but in Belgium it is. So catch them yourself or let your dog do it. Just like a hare, let it die off, head off and clean. Burning hairs with a burner, just like a pig.

    Preparation method
Place the rats in a bowl with olive oil, parsley, onions, carrot, sherry and a little tamarie. Leave hour or 12. Dry the rats with kitchen paper and roast them in the saucepan. Add a bottle of beer (kriek or Geuze) and let it simmer on low heat (1.5 hours)
