Panasonic will also be demonstrating its latest 8K Organic Sensor technology at IBC 2019. Designed for wide camera angle shots with high resolution, the sensor is set to revolutionise commercial sports and live event coverage.

With first commercial use anticipated at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the organic sensor technology has a number of competitive advantages. It comes with a wide dynamic range delivering more colours and higher quality images than ever before. Its Electronic Neutral Density Filter (ENDF) can reduce or introduce light more smoothly than its traditional Optical Neutral Density (OND) counterparts and its innovative Global Shutter delivers advantages over current Rolling Shutters by removing the skew when shooting fast moving images and eliminating flashband from still camera lighting at live events and press conferences.
    Global shutter too.

The wording above is a little odd. Obviously, the global shutter will benefit the coverage of the sporting events. And the Olympics, aside of Bob Costas's endless nattering, is a sporting event. And 8K does allow for wider framing. But what about other Monstro-sized applications? Waiting until 2021?

Likely Panasonic will finesse their 8K organic tech with small batches of cameras, and then when they are ready it will show up in a new Varicam offering. Still it's good that their organic development is finally starting to see the light of day.

If they're going to make inroads against ARRI, Sony and Red at the high end, it might help to have a leg up on the technology front. And if this sensor performs up to the expectations, this leg will be Shaq size.

PS. I can see the promos now, "You saw the 17 year old gymnasts and swimmers in glorious organic 8K. Now get ready to see real Hollywood - the Botox, the silicon and the hair plugs - in a most candid detail too".

    Interviewer: "This is Super 35."
Representative: "Yes . . . we are targeting sports applications. So the camera operator needs to be focused. So it's much better to have a smaller-size sensor."

Super 35 is "small" these days and easy to keep in focus? Public sentiment has changed in 10 years. In 2008, shortly after the Red One came out, people were saying that's great for movies but hard to keep in focus for sports and other events. I said I would love a S35 all-around camera but was only made fun of.

I appreciate the agonizing updates. It's everything I want and more. But it won't be out for a year. And then I will not be able to afford one.

Panasonic's 2018 prototype was used for some parts of this demo video, along with the VARICAM 35 and EVA 1.

Ok, here is a stupid question that no one seems to have bothered to address.
    What makes this "organic" ?
Did it magically spring up on a no pesticide mid-west farm ?
