Oh, true...the 1DX Mark II's been doing that for a few years now. (S1/R does it now too.)

That's one of the infuriating things about Canon; they can and do excel well but also severely hold back their innovations.

    4K/60p, sure...LOG, no.

DPAF, sure...in 4K (certain cameras), no.

RAW, sure...regular decent format that's a bit more manageable, no.

And the crop. Let's not forget the wholly unnecessary crop. Or the fake defocus.

Anyone outside the cartel has to wonder too - https://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/tow...r-own-cameras/

I actually saw that last night, but didn't watch it.

For years, I have wondered how any of these companies can rely on Sony like that.

Because it's one stop shopping that saves them tens of millions on the R&D.

The downside is that Sony keeps the very best for its own models.

And then it's horse trading at its finest.

But is there no one else that can supply them sensors? (Like what are R&D do the companies looking for sensors need if they are already make cameras. They still have to do the work dialing everything in.)

The problem is that most sensor work was done for cars, mobile phones and robots/automated vision and all those have different requirements than the consumer/pro cameras. Sony has an overlap in that they can group their R&D better. Now, ARRI paid STM to do a "by special order only" job for the ALEF original. But that's a very much a small batch order compared to something like IMX 410 (24 MPX, full frame) that's inside Z6, A7III and S1/H (and probably EOS RP) that will move tens of thousands units annually.

In one of the notes below that video above, the guy said that an improvement in dynamic range is the real challenge.

Makes sense as most cameras gained like 2 stops in 10 years.

So, as if I was covertly working for Fujifilm or Samsung.

Samsung and Fujifilm announce the new ISOCELL Plus sensor

If the RP had it, Sony fanboys would not have been able to bash Canon.

About time for a new camera from them.

Something with compressed RAW options, plus 10 bit H265 or prores recording up to 4k 60p.
