In the PC world most of the newer laptops and desktops use internal NVMe drives like this one for $170 US. There are faster NVMe drives, but paying $170 for 3,400 MB/sec read speed with 2,500 MB/sec write speed is fast enough for most folks.

Samsung will start shipments of its PM1733 SSDs this quarter. Among x86 platforms, the PCIe 4.0 capabilities of the drives will only be available on AMD EPYC 7002 and AMD Ryzen 3000 platforms, but the devices will also work with current PCIe 3.0 platforms from Intel and AMD. The manufacturer has not disclosed prices of the new PM1733 SSDs so far.

So the new Mac Pro will be behind the AMD PCIe 4.0 systems when it ships.

It is backward compatible with the older PCIe 3.0 interface but using it on that platform will severely hinder overall performance.

So has AMD done the unthinkable? Beaten Intel by such a large margin that there is no contest? For now, based on our preliminary testing, that is the case. The launch of AMD's second generation EPYC processors is nothing short of historic, beating the competition by a large margin in almost every metric: performance, performance per watt and performance per dollar.

And that's not even MAXED out maxed out... There's 8TB of storage and higher end graphics cards coming. They're listed, but not priced or selectable, yet.

There's also a rack mount version coming for an extra $500

And of course, this is all without a monitor.
