Liam, just viewed your film and apart from how well it is made, it made me realise just what a privileged life I lead, and just how shallow my values are. Many of us simply lose sight of how incredibly lucky we are. Thank you for posting and thank you for making me think.

Great story and a great example of documentary storytelling. Really interesting shot selection, pacing, colour grading, and sparing use of drone footage.

To the poster above, Stewhem, I know how you feel. Years ago I had this same realisation and so always have some pro bono work on the go as well as paid work that focuses on development and community. Works for me.

Yep. No electricity, no running water. Yet many of these kids are destined to go to universities in Europe and America. Incredible really.

    Nice stuff.

I dont want to be biased but the skin tones and general scenery are so photogenic!

I felt it needed another pass in the grade on some shots as they are a little grey and dont hit the needed vibrancy.

There are some cuts that I feel too quick. and some MTV wipes that are not appropriate.

Lets keep a feeling of relaxation. Make the shots work on African time?

I didnt even have time to read what to do when you feel like quitting.

Also I sense there are some digital zooms.. are they needed.. sure a dolly would be nice but as sticks was (I guess) what you had why not just let the shot sit.

Have people forgotten that a shot can just sit.. I have!

Oh .. sound design.. where is my singing and clapping?

Top mic on two levels would nail this I guess without you having to think about it.

I didn't do the edit or the grade Sam, just shot it, on my own, with one bag of kit, and handed it over.

All the sound is there, they just chose not to use it. I shot seven other interviews which they also chose not to use and a whole bunch of other B-roll which was deemed surplus to requirements.

Nice work. I checked out the videos for the other contenders and your entry by far had the best cinematography.
