I still have the occasional use for my HPX170 and wondered if it's possible to use the Panasonic wide angle conversion lens AG-LW7208 (intended for the DVX100) on the HPX170...both cameras have a 72mm thread mount but the opposing concave camera and convex lens glass meet before the threads do...maybe I could get a 72mm male/female extension ring to buy some distance between the 2 glass elements? Anyone done this before? Is it even possible? Advisable?
A manual test holding the additional lens in place looks good...

your theory with the step ring sounds right.. should work. You just need to buy yourself that space.

It will work. Just buy yourself a cheap UV filter, and i mean cheap cuz you are going to knock or remove the glass. That should be enough of a spacer. I have done this before and it is usually cheaper than buying an actual spacer, if such a thing exists.
Just to be clear, you could use any type of filter, doesn't have to be a UV, just whatever is the cheapest.
