    A clear/translucent case should pass the light through and absorb less energy (heat) from sunlight than a black case, right? I'd guess the case would be less likely to soften and distort, but the tape itself might be more at risk.

    I used to have clear and colored MiniDV tapes. I loved them. I could tell at a glance what type of content I had recorded based on the color (short film, industrial, commercial)
