When I edit in FCP and put to clip side by side and try to apply a transition, sometime it only apply the transition on one video and the effect isn't good at all? I just decided to ask why it did it and if there is a way to correct it.
Thank You

when a piece of video is not long enough, a transition has no flesh to transition. If you have 2 clips next to each other, the first clip need too have more video (flesh) in the end and the 2nd clip need to have more video in the beginning.
Each clip you need to extend. The first in the end and the 2nd in the beginning.
A little hard to explain in a language which is not yours, but I hop you understand.

You have to overlap the head/tail of the clips so that there can be a transition.
If you want to dissolve there will have to be both clips available at the same time; you can't just butt the end of two clips together and apply a transition because they both don't exist at that time, just one or the other.
Look under transitions in the manual or online help for details.

Ok I think I understand so if I don't one the end of a clip, I have to remove the end then export it and then import it and apply the transition?

yes but you can do everything in your timeline, You don't have to import an export, You can import it into the timeline and then shorten your clip using your mouse. Go stand at the end or the beginning of the clip and drag it to the right or left, so you make your clip shorter.
But these are very beginners things, so it is important to use your manual as well.

You need to remember that transitions utilize footage that is outside of the in and out points. Thus you need enough frames outside of the in and out points in order to insert a transition. See this great article on ken stones website

for a better explanation than I could give.

Have been working with FCP for a yeats an edited a lot but I just never ask why it does that. I understand that it is beginner things but sometimes, I skip some steps as I'm sure many of you do too.
