Ninja Flame with a 1dx Mark II?

    Hi all,

I have a chance to get a Ninja Flame at a good price. Is there any benefit with the 1dx mark II using it? I usually do mainly 4k and slow Mo at 120 fps which is HD. I believe it could record 4K to the camera and the Ninja could record HD at the same time. I already use the SmallHD 702 monitor and really like it. Basically I want to know if it is beneficial getting the Atomos or just keep the SmallHD?

    Thanks in advance
    Rob

The only benefit with external recording for any of the Canon DSLRs is as a back-up solution. They don't output any higher specs (and are limited to HD via HDMI) so you wouldn't be getting any better-looking footage.

The only other consideration I can think of is maybe easier files to work with in post if 4K MJPEG is slowing you down (and 1080p is okay for everything).

As far as monitoring, I like both but the Atomos is more 'future-proof' and the better option IMO if you consider the recording capabilities (even down the road).
