Looking for best quality microphone for documentary and podcast work, either external or plug in. My main objective is the get very clear vocals.
Eventually I need to have optimal quality clear audio, but must use my phone only for video (iPhone X)

    Thanks for thoughts and recommendations!

If you can use the following with the lightning adapter (aka if they will work), the RODE options are popular:

Maybe a Shure MV88, which has a Lighting connector. Not sure if it's compatible with the iPhone X and latest iOS...but shouldn't be hard to find out.

Maybe the Rode iXLR which is basically a XLR to Lightning adapter (with a cable). Might at least open up more microphone options.

But why must you use only an iPhone X for video? Is this for a contest? Genuinely curious...

I'm happy with my DJI Osmo for stabilising shots in motion. If you intend to do more than occasional filming with a mobile phone I think it's well worth the investment.

Hi Jim, Just cause I have one and i want to get into it before I decide whether to get a more expensive dedicated camera. I have my eye on the Sony A7 S III.

Take a look at the IK Multimedia iRig Pro I/O. XLR input with phantom. You can use any mic you want.
Nobody notices audio... until it's not there.
