Something like Tom Selleck's moustache in the vid below. I know for Ironman's mask and all those weird costumes in Pirates, they stick those markers on the actors faces. Is there a way to do this in Aftereffects or a way an indie filmmaker can achieve this on a budget. Not looking for a full tutorial, just a push on where to start and which software does this. I'm somewhat familiar with Premiere and I know how to do limited animation with key frames, but I don't think that would look too smooth. Never used Aftereffects but was wondering what this function is called.

    Thanks guys!

Ya, you can do this in After Effects. Google up 3D Camera Tracker, motion tracking, planar tracking, and Mocha AE. That'll get you started...
