for me. The FS5 has got one and the Ursa Mini can use a variety of servo zooms and the next Canon C100/200 4k update will have one.
Zooms are a legitimate Cinematic tool just look at Barry Lyndon.
If this camera is S35 would it be possible to rehouse or provide an adaptor for the Sony 18-110 f4
that allows servo zoom, AF and IS ?
    Just asking.
Wouldn't this camera, if it has an EF mount, be able to use any lens that the Ursa Mini does?

Again, the Canon EF-mount CN-E 18-80mm T4.4 is a reasonably prized ENG-capable cine zoom lens for use up to Super 35, and has both AF and IS functionality (on Cinema EOS cameras).

Maybe the project was not completed yet, so Mitch can report our requests to Panasonic.

he already said "I only joined Panasonic in March and the camera was well underway and in fact pretty much locked down by the time I learned of it." - they are not going to change anything significant now unless some serious hardware/software issues emerge. if they had developed a servo-zoom for this camera, it would have shown up in the silhouette-pic, wouldn't it?

let's hope it either has the contacts on the mount necessary for powering the canon zoom or - even better - a 12V power out for powering it and other lenses/accessoires (fujinon ?), or, as a last resort, batteries with a higher voltage than 7.2V, so some third-party-batteries (swit, idx) could power a servo-zoom via cable. i wouldn't count on it, though - I guess it either has the contacts on the mount or nothing at all.

Thanks JR does this mean the servo, AF and IS would work on any new Panasonic S35 camera ?
    Thanks !

The servo may work if the body can power the lens, which it probably will be able to as apertures from lenses will need to be electronically changed, but considering AF and Auto-Iris and IS don't work on some of Canon's DSLRs, probably no for any other camera besides a Cinema EOS body.

I don't know what would work on any new Panasonic S35 camera. Maybe I'll have an idea in just under two weeks. ;) But, as I said, the Canon lens has AF and IS functionality on Canon Cinema EOS cameras...cameras you can buy right now, just like the lens. Personally I don't use AF, nor do I use IS a whole lot in anything but docu, but I would find the servo zoom useful in certain scenarios.

Always spending money on more gear! It's a sickness.
