I came across this JVC LS300 firmware upgrade mentioned on another JVC forum web site. The link below is to the Japanese JVC news release stating that on May 29, 2017 JVC will be releasing a free LS300 firmware upgrade enabling the LS300 to record 4K/60p. Also, the LS300 will be able to record 4K 24p and 30p 4:2:2 to an external recorder. I used Google Translate to read the document. I tried to cut and past the English translation without success.

In the other thread that mentiones the firmware update, I think it's saying 4K 4:2:2 will be possible internally:

"Up to now, sampling at 4K recording was only 4: 2: 0, but with this version up, 4: 2: 2 sampling recording of 4K / 30p, 4K / 24p is possible on the SD card mounted on the camera It becomes ※ 2.
    * 2: In the 4K 4: 2: 2 recording mode, the image output from the HDMI / SDI terminal is HD signal only."

Going to need a fast card for that.

If this is true, I may not have to replace my Ninja Blade with the new Ninja Inferno.

Beautiful. A big win for LS300 owners.

So many cameras can benefit from a 4K/60p update...whether it's possible for them, I don't know, but still.

Wow! Big win for JVC users here.
Pity though it isn't 60p internal....
    Does it do 10bit external?

The camera's specs state it is an 8-bit camera. No mention of 10-bit output capability. Still, being able to record 4K 60/50p 8-bit 4:2:2 is not bad considering the camera sells for $2595USD.

It's really remarkable how many features they have added to this camera, and all for FREE. Among several fixes and enhancements, the big ones:

    4k 4:2:2 Internal
    UHD at 60p
    Prime Zoom
    Histogram & Spotmeter
    120fps in HD
    Cinema 2K and Cinema 4K
    Log Recording w/ R709 preview & LUTs
    70mbs 4K for non U3 SD cards
    New bitrates added for streaming
Adjustable black level and color matrix

They could have easily saved these for an LS300 "A" model, or charged for the FW like certain other camera makers have done The LS300's build may have some users raising an eyebrow, but JVC has put a LOT of effort under the hood. In the interchangeable 4K market- this camera has the most value for it's cost IMO.

I wonder when this model will be updated entirely.
