If you intentionally blow out a sky or a window for the look or feel of it in your feature, how does that translate in HDR without either maintaining too much information in the highlights to do the same job or singing the viewer's retinas with searing brightness?

I am assuming you ask a serious question;
1.) Enable HDR scopes; Project Settings, under color sub-menu.
2.) Create a node, right click on node, choose HDR mode.
3.) Choose the Highlight wheel from Log panel.
4.) Adjust Highlight wheel in combination with HR (high range) on the menu bar (below the wheels) to clip or de-clip the highlight and move the resultant waveform shape to locate it where you want it between 100 and 10,000 nits.
Of course you need the paid version of Resolve (Studio) for this.
