Ok, this could be the dumbest question ever but what the hell. Has anyone ever put a magnifying glass in front of their lens to see what it does? Like, what if I could find one that's close to 72mm, attach it to a step-up ring (for my matteblox), and shoot thru it? Think it would work? I don't have one on hand, but I feel like it should serve some (however minimal) telephoto purpose.

I think you would have a very hard time trying to focus your camera.

Ok, maybe not a telephoto. It was late last night, and I wasn't thinking too clearly but maybe as a macro? Ok, maybe I'm still in a haze.....whatever....maybe it would just make a cool out of focus effect distorting everything......kinda like that guy who did the music vid looking through the bottom of the bottle?

it would give you a fish-eyed look i believe- the center of the magnifying lens would be clear, but the outer rim of the lens will be very distorted--unless it's a BIG magnifying glass

It'd definitely work, though you'd have to focus it right unless you're using some 35mm adapter, in that case the placement would be different in the usual 35mm adapter scheme. Only problem is that it'd be too much like a centered shot filter, where the sides are warped and out fish-eyed and the center is clear and unaffected.

Hey! This thread's still alive? Thanks guys. That's exactly what I was wondering. Might be cool for an effect. Ok, maybe it'd have to be some weird experimental s*%te but it could be cool. Thanks again, I still haven't tried it, but now I plan to.

hey man I did this already. It doesnt work well unless youre just using it as a special effect. The hard part is finding a mag Glass that is high enough in quality that the image it creates is sharp.

Yea search the grabs like 3 months ago. i posted images and everything.

yea, i would use this if it were possible to get a good quality magnifying glass. but they are really expensive. id rather just but a 35mm adapter.
