The NX1 has a lot of processing power which could make 14bit raw downsampled 2k recording to internal SD cards viable. Downsampling to 2k might be a way to get around the high 4k rolling shutter (it's much lower in 1080p mode). Another really interesting possibility would be HDR development and better low light performance.
Your link is either missing or off limits. Do you have another?

Squig, I read the inputs from the other mods on that thread. Whats A1ex's latest input on it?

A1ex hasn't said much. I have no idea whether he or any of the magic lantern developers are interested in NX1 firmware development but if they are it would certainly stir things up a bit and could push other camera companies into releasing DSLRs with raw recording capabilities.

Agree that this could be an exciting development, but not sure why you posted a link that no-one can access? Does it inform your comment that "Not only is Samsung listening but they're actively pursuing 3rd party development"?

If you read the whole sensor and then downsample, you get the bad RS of the full-sensor readout mode. If you line-skip you improve RS, but you can get artifacts (which can be reduced if you read the whole line and then downsample horizontally).

Apart from that, very promising. Just the fact that they gave the ML devs special treatment is a very positive sign.

Ditching H.265 might leave some CPU for a faster sensor read. What's more processor intensive, H.265 or 2k downsampling?

Is it raw processing power that is doing the H.265 encoding or is it a special chipset that only does the encoding? I can see your point if it's just raw CPU power, but I always assumed these cameras had special chipsets for encoding that stuff.
