As I was watching the video, I was expecting the cost to be around $1,500, but I was wrong, in the video he said, "The cost is less than $300".

The memory cards will add to the total cost, but the cost is very reasonable.

    Good catch,

    Bob Diaz

Yes Bob this is Great, make our camera capable of anything as far as image quality, BE CAREFUL about the card is NOT Compact Flash card is CFast cards are similar in size but are built with reliability in mind, 64 GIG is $ 159 and good for 50 minutes at maximum quality, SO is Around $ 450 for the entire package, I'll go for that.

I expect feature films to be shot on the HMC40 now.

Suppose the camera is used with one of these recorders while gain is applied --- Is there noise reduction that isn't applied over the HDMI output, but is on the internally recorded footage?

No, As you know the HMC40 Needs good lighting, with DRS 1 you should no go over 12 db gain, without drs up to 15-18. Besides there are options in post.

Then I guess there will be absolutely no need whatsoever for Ursas, Reds, BMCC, GH4s, and the like as long as the HMC40 is out there with an external recording option now.

I guess folks here are/were unaware of the Blackmagic Hyperdeck, which shoots ProRes/DNxHD/Uncompressed, costs less, and uses cheaper and more widely available SSDs. And it has HDMI as well as SDI and can convert between the two seamlessly.

What you get with this recorder on the HMC40 is a better codec, a better codec shines in post when you apply grading, effects etc. The camera is not a low light star, is not a shallow depth o field sensor. but now can be used with confidence for high quality work, as long as the camera characteristics fits your purpose.
