Ok, guys. In an effort to try out something new, and to try to keep things simple all the way around this time...
I'd like you all to upload your films to YouTube (no banners, or advertisements. This is a commercial free fest)
I'd like for you to upload your film to your own Youtube account as an *UNLISTED* video. This makes it so the only way to view the video, is if the URL is known. Please confirm that you have selected *UNLISTED* before you upload your film. Please note that you must have a youtube account in good standing in order for this option to be available. For more information on youtube's privacy settings, see this link:
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/157177?hl=en
Once you have successfully uploaded your film send me a private message and provide the following information:
A mod will contact you if there are any questions, or to let you know when your film is approved. There will also be a running list updated regularly by the mods in the next post of this thread.
- The URL on YouTube for your uploaded entry (confirm that it is an unlisted video, and does not show up in any of your playlists, etc.)
- Please provide the time stamp for where the "DVX" required element appears in your film.
- Please confirm whether you would like to be contacted via private message, or provide a reliable email address to contact you at in case we have any questions for you during the approval process.
I think that is pretty much it. Give your video a description on youtube, and any other details you want to provide. Please provide your DVXuser name clearly in your video description. It will be helpful for those wanting to provide you with feedback directly in your film thread on 'user. This is a recommendation, not a requirement.
I will be adding all of the films to a playlist on the Landmine Youtube channel, which will be made public once the fest goes live. I ask that you keep the video as *unlisted*, and do not share the url publicly until after the fest officially goes live. Once we officially open the doors, you can change the status to "Public", share it, embed it, whatever you want. So long as you abide by our basic rules for promotion. Short Version: Don't act like a spammer. But, feel free to promote your film and/or the fest on websites or social media pages that you are already active on. And, of course, here.
Any questions, post them here or send me a PM, if you prefer. If, for some reason, any of the above is an impossibility for you, contact me via private message immediately. I will make sure I keep a close eye on my pm's over the next several days.
We claim no ownership of your film, nor any responsibility for its contents. We make a good faith effort to ensure that all entries abide by the rules for competition. If a film is somehow ineligible for competition, we may still include it in the fest as an exhibition entry. However, we will NOT include any film that has copyright violations. Once the fest is over, you can do what you want with your film. It's totally yours. If you don't want your film to continue to be promoted and/or made available by us after the fest, just let us know, and we will be happy to oblige. Otherwise, we tend to continue making the films publicly available via the same means they were viewed during the fest.
An additional note about "Unlisted" vs "Public" privacy settings on your uploaded film:
Your film MUST be "Unlisted" until the fest goes live (which is when the playlist on the LandmineMedia youtube channel for HorroFest becomes publicly viewable). After that, it is totally up to you. You can set it to "Public" if you want it to be viewable in "related videos", searches, etc, etc. Or, if you don't want your film running free, and just want it found as a part of the fest, you can keep it as "Unlisted". Only people who know/have the URL to your film can view it, if it is "Unlisted".

nothing in particular. Just other variables that would have needed to be considered. Vimeo members with basic plans might run into problems though based on the limitations of the account. i.e. bandwidth limitations, number of weekly uploads allowed, quality of encoding, the fact that basic members can't embed, potential wait times for uploads compared to plus members, etc.
Since this is our first fest back in a while, and a bit more casual, seemed like a good opportunity to explore using a 3rd party. For this first try at it, youtube seemed to be the best option with the least variables to be concerned about from our end, or the user-end.
