Im half after a replacement for my EX1 - Id like a better lens and a better image - but really 5 odd years delivers an extra 15mbs and a few more pixels on the viewfinder? Hmmm

It would be great if there was something between 1/2 usability and S35 unusability in this price class

There's a lot more to it than that - not least an upgrade path to XAVC next year. That opens the door to things like higher frame rate recording etc. I think there are also likely to be options for proxy type codecs and wireless connectivity, but it's early days for info yet. Worth looking at http://www.xdcam-user.com/2013/06/th...-422-and-xavc/

I tend to agree with Morgan. Using the same chipset with a twist is not that exciting. The EX series image is nice but left me cold. Seeing that the 4:2:2 round of updates for these cameras is out there, it looks like years before a true "better image" upgrade will be created.

Tough to say. I used to use the EX-1 along side an HPX-500 and although the EX had more resolution I was always drawn more to the Panasonic. Even though I tweaked the EX to resemble the Panasonic look. Out of the box the EX had a boring flat look imho. After setep it had a nice image no doubt but kind of clinical? Very subjective, but when I hear Sony just added a better codec option to a 4 year old camera it does not make me want to consider the purchase.

I think my 'disappointment' is the still gaping hole in the market for a camera (in the sub 15k market) that sits nicely between

S35 - "I cant focus this or buy a decent zoom (for under 34k)"

Sub 2/3 - "Footage Looks like a video camera that my aunt has"
