DVFilm will soon introduce a new editing system called "Raylight Cutter"

Purchasers of Raylight Ultra will be able to apply their purchase to it. It will have all the
    import/export capabilities of Raylight Ultra.

I can't provide a lot of details right now, but it will have these basic capabilities:

Import and edit Panasonic P2 format, RED, Sony MXF, Quicktime and AVI files, H.264 (.mts) and Mpeg stream files,
audio files, stills, other popular formats. Real-time playback in all formats. 2nd-screen monitor
full screen playback. Freely intercut all pro HD formats with minimum re-rendering.

Cut proxies on the iPad and conform to your edit on a workstation.

    Still, animated, and scrolling titles.

REMBRANDT color correction, full audio editing and mixing.

Runs the same on Windows, Mac and iPad, and you can switch platforms without buying a 2nd license.

Export to P2 format, quicktime, AVI, DVD and Blu-ray.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please post. I'd particularly like to hear from Raylight users.

    Thanks very much,
    Marcus van Bavel

It shows roughly how you change in and out-points, scrub though cuts, navigate the project using the piechart-reel representation, and make adjustments to the soundtrack. The demo shows import of quicktime formats only right now but of course many other formats will be importable. The titling, color correction, file export features are not in the demo yet. There will be more details coming soon.

The first release will be for Windows 7 and as you can imagine from watching the demo, a 3D graphics card or chip will be required to run it. This demo is running on a Dell laptop with an Nvidia GEForce 8400. Any 3D graphics hardware that provides OpenGL support should work. The OpenGL method should allow us to easily port the user interface to Mac, iOS and Android and make it a cross-platform product like Premiere or Avid Media Composer.

I am hoping to start selling it in about 3 months time (Spring 2013) but we may make a prototype version available if someone would like to play around with it.

Here is an update. I am working on the multi-track audio features, and its almost done. Next thing is to
incorporate our P2 import/export features from Raylight Ultra and the file formats supported by Direct X.

Another update. The P2 Import feature is done, handles all P2 formats including AVC-Intra and will support AVC-Ultra and LongG formats when they are ready. The Direct X import is done, handles many formats including Mpeg, Mpeg2, MTS files, XDCAM files, VOB files, AVI files, WMV files, basically anything readable with windows media. Quicktime import is already done which supports DSLR quicktimes, DVCPROHD/50 quicktimes, still image files, audio files, etc.

Left to be done before the initial release is to integrate some existing code, the P2 export from Raylight Ultra, integrate Quicktime and AVI export code from DVFilm Maker, and possibly mpeg2 export using the Microsoft mpeg2 encoder that comes with Windows 7. H.264 export for Bluray will most likely be supported in the initial release by integrating x264 (a free encoder tool for Bluray) using a Raylight or uncompressed AVI intermediate.

Editing-wise what will work is cuts and dissolves assemble editing, sound editing with levels adjustment, channel assignment, and the ability to sweeten tracks with an external audio app, simple color correction, basic titles.

Also we are looking at a kickstarter to finance taking it to the next level, a full-feature editing system that will handle all editing needs. More news about that soon.

    Another quick update.

We've had some delays in releasing Cutter, mainly because I had to finalize the patent application for the user interface and get it into the Patent Office before Jan 8th, which was done successfully

    (yay ).

If you care to read it here it is (warning may put you to sleep; the quaint patent-style drawings appear starting on page 25)
    http://dvfilm.com/cutter/CutterPatent-Final.pdf

Some other progress made: finished the automatic proxy generation for DirectShow supported formats like Sony and Canon MXF, MTS files, etc. Finished the cross-wipe, dissolve, flash frame transitions. Added user interface screens for projects settings. Completed the keyframe titler, keyframe color correction, and pan/tilt/zoom/rotate correction. Added user interface elements for the "synchronizer" which allow you to edit superimposed tracks or edit to music tracks. Still not done yet the file export code as I mentioned in previous posts, just a matter of importing code from other software already written. Still planning to impliment DVD/BluRay authoring by invoking one of the free or low-cost tools like Windows DVD Maker, but also looking at licensing an encoder from one of the standard providers.

As usual feedback is welcome. I hope to post a new youtube video soon.
