So I went with my buddy the other day to see WOTW. The storyline was okay (being that it was almost traced from the original) but what really caught my attention were the vissual effects. My question is, does anybody know what software was used to create the "falling" brdige scene?

I hate to say it, but that question justified that answer.

It's proprietary ILM software mixed with Maya, Max, Flame, XSI, etc. etc. It's mostly custom code.

Not that it couldn't be made acceptably well in combustion or after effects coupled with XSI (or Max or Maya) and Boujou, but it would be a heck of a lot harder and wouldn't come out as well. Even as far as big budget special effects movies go, this one was a killer to work on (so I hear) because of the cinematography style.

Sadly, the easiest and most practical way to get a shot that good is how Spielberg does it: pay someone a couple million dollars to make it for you.

hey, as a side question, how did they do that amazing shot of the three driving down the freeway in the van, im not sure if they used digital effects for that, i assume not, but it just seems to amazing for it to have just been a giant jib on a moving truck panning around while tracking

I heard that they trained a swallow (African I think) to carry the new Panavision MiniUltra.

That is why the framing is slighting off.

I'm guessing it was just darn good blue screen work, after all. Mainly because of the camera going through the interior at the back of the van. But that doesn't really sound like something Spielberg would do and if it's not that, then most of the cars on the highway must have been cgi. Or perhaps it was a combination of everything... Either way, it was an amazing shot.
