Does the FS700 allow Shutter Angles instead of Shutter Speeds? If so can it be set to 180*, & will it stick if the the frame rate is changed?

More importantly can the shutter angle be fine tuned, or are there only a handful available?

The reason I ask is much of my work happens in countries with different Ulitily Frequencies, but the footage is always delivered in 24p. In 60 Hz countries I use the standard 180* shutter angle, & in 50 Hz countries switch to 172.8* to avoid flicker.

If this isn't possible is there another workaround I'm missing? Shooting 25p is not an option.

    Thanks,
    Bern

Alas no - the ECS (Electronic Shutter Control) that is on the EX1/3 and F3 is noticeably absent from the FS100/700.

Once upon a time, there was a way to 'freak' a PD150 using auto shutter control - see the section on shooting computer screens:

    http://www.urbanfox.tv/workbooks/son...150shutter.htm

but I don't think this works on the FS100/700 as their shutter speeds are locked.

I think this is a case where the Marketing Department won.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

The FS700 has much going for it, but this missing feature may keep me from buying in.

Would likely choose the C300, but it's overcrank drops to 720p, & aliases.

Makes me wonder when the F3's successor will arrive. Or the AF100's.

I'm stuck on the crossroads: I have the FS100 and a couple of EX1s - the EX1s have been very good to me, they've earned tonnes of cash for me. I bought the FS100 to replace the DSLR and it's sort of taken over the EX1's spot. Should I have banked the money last year and bought an F3 this year? My good friend and colleague Rick Young rolled out the barrel and bought an F3 and has loved it ever since. The features, the workflow and all the pro niceties are there. Yup, it's big and its heavy and it's a bit of a brute, but ye gods, it's a fine camera.

No Metabones (he sold off all his L glass for Nikkor), no IS kit lens, no hiding the fact that this is one hairy chested man of a camera, but it does exactly what an EX1 does but SOOOO much better.

I wonder (beer in hand) if I should have invested in the F3. ECS, EX workflow, S-Log, 10 bit HD-SDI output, and the rest. Then I pull out this little box brownie of a camera and look at the results.

But your mileage WILL vary. Maybe the F3-R will fit your bill, or make the orignal F3 affordable enough to unseat the FS700 from your plans. To which, I'd also prod you with a sharp stick to see if you'd rather an FS700 in the EA50 body for the price of an FS700.

But somehow, all roads lead to the F3 for the Pro work. You'll never weild that camera in anger hand-held without $1.5k+ of scaffolding, but you'll never be caught out by Samsung Monitors in shot (that do 61.375 Hz) or flubbery fluorescent tubes that can't quite kick it.

But there you go. I'm just a frustrated F3 wannabe owner.

The F3's bulk is the feature I like least, & the one holding me back.

As much of my work involves travel on a tight schedule, carrying camera packages onboard is a must. In these new times I rarely arrive early, & need to get right to work, so can't trust baggage for crucial kit (except sticks).

You're really not gonna buy an amazing camera because you cant set shutter angle? its not that hard to dial the shutter one notch up or down.

A shot only flickers when you have 50hz light with 60p/24p shots or 60hz lights with 25p/50p shots... 1/125 shutter is going to look the same as 1/120.
