These are semi old clips, and probably seen by a lot of already, but I think it's nice reminder for us visual guys that the sound department will carry us a long way and therefore needs the respect and room for developing the mood in any scene.

From E.T., the end without a musical score... how incredibly boring it is!

From Jaws, a nice head to head example without and with sound. You can literally feel a difference of tension in your body between the two:

Well yes, audio is 1/2 of your product. And yet the so many posts like... What's the cheapest fastest way to get good sound.

I'd say that audio plays a more important part in a movie than the video. I can watch a movie with s*%tty video, but if the audio is s*%tty, I just get turned off, and don't seem to want to watch it.

    Maybe it's just me though.

I agree... One of the first things I learned coming here and that rang truth to me are the posts from various members stating:
Good audio can save bad cinematography, but good cinematography cant save bad audio.

If your actors begin speaking and it sounds like on-camera audio, that's an instant shut off for me.

lol that E.T. spaceship starts like a car haha, is this how it was in original or some kind of joke ?
I think many editors are cutting movies and music to go along nicely together and some scenes are planned with some particular music in mind.

I'm just like you guys, when I watch something with bad audio, I just can't watch it anymore...That's why I'm going to buy new mics right after I get new lens.

    Same here.

Right in the midst of it right now as I watch the new project totally transformed by audio post. The Foley, the score (especially), it's not even remotely the same experience it was when it was just video lock with production sound.

It's really not just the quality of the recording, but, something that I tend to suffer from the most, accents. The world seems to expect L.A. accents. Sometimes your film pulls through without a hitch, until someone opens their mouths. Not something many of you suffer from I'm sure, but it can definitely be an issue (just as much as bad audio, or bad acting for that matter)...

Everybody in my films has a southern accent except for the odd yankee transplant.
