I have various examples throughout this music video I directed (also posted in this thread). It was only shot to SXS internal media card. (420 8-bit 35Mbps)

(On Vimeo https://vimeo.com/43413911)
Any zooms you see are done in post, and some frames were blown up to 20%-25% to reframe shots. Also, all slow motion shots are blown up 50% because in-camera the F3 can only overcrank 1280x720 so to match the rest of the footage shot it was blown up 50% to 1920x1080.
This video screened at a film festival last weekend and I saw it on the big screen. 50% is definitely pushing it, the image will get softer for sure but also I did not use any special software to do the "up-rezzing".

There is also a spec commercial Nigel A here on DVX shot where I remember a close-up being taken from a master.
Here is the link. Fast forward to 0:56 to see side-by-side. It's not drastic, but still check it out.

Depends a lot on what your final use is. if its the web than just cut in 720 and you have 50% for free. If for projection or large screen then you just eed t test yourself to see what you can get away with and it will be shot specific. Close-ups might be fine.
