I use the HF dimmers (hell, I actually used them on a router before I got a variable speed model - how bizarre).

They get hot, hotter as the day goes on, with just a 500. Turn 'em off from time to time.

Bring a box of fuses - mine seem to blow a lot, even with 750's or 500's.

If you use anything like a garden blower or a big fan for effects/hair... they work on those, too (just watch the wattage). They really make cheap electric blowers more versatile.
