hello Members,
I am a 'newbie' to this forum and have a question about use of portable flash recorders with XHA1/XHA1s
I have read about portable flash recorders for XHA1 from Focus Enhancements, Nanoflash etc, but they all plug in to the Firewire port on the XHA1s - and hence record 4:2:0 1080i.
On the other hand, you can play tape and capture from component out using MAtrox A/V tools to 4:2:2 .avi files - which would be better quality than the HDV (.m2t) capture out of the Firewire port.
Again, you could capture .m2t through the Firewire and run Cineform Neoscene on it to create a 4:2:2 .avi file.
The Matrox method is not tapeless, but offers much better quality.
The Cineform method can be tapeless (with a flash recorder) or with tape (via Firewire) - but requires an additional conversion step ( an hour or so per HDV tape)
So my question, are there any portable flash recorders that can capture 4:2:2 1080i out of component out?

You can buy a YPbPr to HDMI converter for about $75 dollars and a battery to power it. An example is

which has a customer review stating it can be used to connect an XH-A1 to the Atomos Ninja.
