    Question regarding selling a script

So I am a resident of the U.S. working on a script for international purposes (intended for Indian cinema). I want to direct the movie itself, and I was just wondering whether the process of selling the script would be different compared to the procedure for Hollywood? Would I need to call a producer/actor in India to help finance the film? Could I send the script to an international film fest?

    Thank you.

Is this for a short film, or a feature film? What experience do you have directing film, and if you have experience, is that with short film or a feature film?

And where did you anticipate the film being shot?

Trying to organise an inter-country project can be very difficult, unless you have excellent contacts in both countries.

This is a film that will take place in Kashmir (and I know it's going to be difficult; accomplishments often occur through difficulty). This is my first shot at being a director ( I have no professional experience, but I do carry plenty of knowledge on how to manage big projects such as a film). I have lived in India before, and maintain contacts with both people from there and here. Let me provide a little background information: I am attending college, and I am assembling a team of people who share interest in the project. That's a start, now I want to know what to do next (in addition, this will be a feature).
Now I know there are a lot of skeptics on this website who are ready to say that what I am about to do will never happen. But please, if you feel I am not taking the right steps to accomplishing this task, tell me what I should do. The least I ask for is some optimism. Thank you.

Actually, accomplishments only sometimes occur through difficulty. Failure, on the other hand, occurs a LOT through difficulty. Which is no reason not to try, of course.

    It's a KILLER connection!

As the film will be shot in India, presumably with Indian actors, for an Indian market, I suggest you treat it as an all-India project for financing and production purposes. Yes, that leaves you as an 'overseas' writer/director, but that seems unavoidable given what you want to do.

So I think you need to get some people in India involved as soon as possible. Initially they may be friends and relations while you/they search out more local people interested in becoming your Indian production team, finance etc. But without that local support in India, I doubt this project can be done.

I'm not an expert, but definitely sounds like you need a indian national producer to me. They'll have the contacts and experience to make it much, much easier to make the film.

So the next question is: How do you contact indian producers and get them to read your script?
