    When shooting a feature would I be responsible for providing Workers Comp? I'm the only permanent "employee" in my company. So how would I get a quote? Isn't workers comp annual? Would I constantly have to deal with the insurance company to add and drop actors from the policy? And as result, have my premium constantly rise and fall...

    We used PayReel as a service for our short. They handled all taxes, workman's comp, and everything else, even SAG. Pretty reasonable if you have a decent sized production.

    How much was it roughly on your short? I only have $3k budgeted for insurance on a $100k feature.

    Workman's comp is a benefit.. not insurance. Our policy was about $1500 I think. PayReel's fee was really low per transaction. Can't remember off the top of my head. Email them and they'll provide a quote.

    You need workers comp for anyone involved who's working for you, even volunteers. Yes, it's annual, and no, you don't have to add or drop names as you go along. Fractured Atlas also provides workers comp coverage.

    Isn't the premium based on how many employees you have? So if I go from a film with 5 people to one with 30, I wouldn't have to do anything regarding the Workers Comp?

    I asked about this and was told you don't need to add or subtract people as you go along. I seem to recall giving a number (of "employees") when I got my coverage, and it seems that income plays a part in how they determine the premium. I doubt that there'd be much if any difference in premium if having 5 or 30 people on.

    Search: "how is workers comp premium calculated" for your state to get an idea how the premium is determined.
