Crime-Centered Documentary project in Dallas, TX

I'd like to collaborate with another creator or two on a possible documentary project to be filmed in/around Dallas, TX.

The subject would be related to crime. Specifically, theft (car break-ins, etc). Something that happens to almost all of us but usually the police don't do much, you never find the person, etc.

Hoping as part of the project to set up one or more "bait" cars with traceable goodies inside and besides catching the actual crime on tape, follow the trail & track the perpetrator down and put a face to these faceless crimes.

Comments/suggestions welcome. Anyone near the area interested in being involved please let me know. This would be my first such project so I'd prefer to work with someone with documentary experience.

Have you checked into the legality of this? You will probably want to have some off-duty law enforcement around while filming this because things could get really nasty really fast.

You are SO going to get shot! You mean you'll follow a stolen car and try to interview the thief?

My studio used to be in the 500x building for 5 years - my car was broken into at least once a year down there (Fair Park). Might be a good place to start.

My neighbor was seriously considering putting a rattlesnake in a cake box and leaving some guitars in his car, and sitting on the roof to watch the show... THAT would be a cool documentary. (Keep in mind that's a felony, if you get any ideas. Called setting a "man trap"...)

Sounds like it could be fun if you keep yourself safe.
