I’m planning to re-engineer my GH2 into a different form factor and add a few features that would evolve it into a more rugged and user friendly camera. I will be using the entire components from the GH2 along with some much needed added features. Here is the list of what I am planning along with a quick viz of the drawings in progress.
- BLACK ANODIZED LIGHT WEIGHT ALUMINUM BODY
- ALL WEATHER SEALED WITH 1/4-20 MOUNTING TAPS
- BUILT IN VARIABLE ND FILTER POSITIONED IN FRONT OF SENSOR
- HDMI TYPE ¨C¨ CONNECTION WITH LOCKING CLAMP & SDI BNC OUTPUT
- XLR MICROPHONE INPUTS WITH 1/8¨ STEREO INPUTS & 1/4¨ HEADPHONE OUTPUT
- INDIVIDUAL AUDIO LEVEL AND SENSITIVITY CONTROLS
- LARGE ERGONOMIC HAND GRIP WITH MULTI FUNCTION ACCESS
- SEPARATE AUXILIARY BATTERY FOR EXTERNAL TAPS
- TOUCH LCD SCREEN FLIPS OPEN ON BACK OR SIDE PLUS MULTI ANGLE POSITIONS
- DEDICATED EVF WITH FULL ON SCREEN MENUS
- MULTI POSITION TOP HANDLE
- BUILT IN 15 MM ROD SUPPORT RAILS
- POWER AND CONTROL FOR FUJINON B4 LENS

I have a provider that will cut the body shape and I will DIY the GH2 tear down and component install.
This is a personal project and I have no plans to market or sell any of these.
Thanks
Noel

Interesting idea. While I could see this as a total blast to work on, I can't imagine that at the end of the day you'll have spent more on reconfiguring the GH2 and working around its limitations than you would if you were to just purchase something like the Black Magic or one of the 2K cameras out there that are starting to roll out.
Of course, your project will be more fun to watch.

Pretty cool project and makes one realize how badly an AF100 with the GH2's image is needed.

My friend, while I appreciate your ingenuity, it doesn't look like you'll be shooting anything anytime soon. The engineering and execution of this projection will keep you in the shop for months.
Best of luck!

I like these types of projects. I'd also say just get out there shooting, but the other half of my brain and heart says, FREAKING AWESOME! I'd do that! Looking forward to the process and completed product. I realise you do not intend to market or sell the product/concept, will you consider putting it up as open source information, making the plans (3D Models) available for others to be able to manufacture the same body for their gear if they wish?

THAT my friend is awesome, If you can pull this off, you will not need to upgrade for a good amount of time, this will have all the features it would take panisonic ten years to release if they would, which I doubt they would ever release anything this cool. It's like a cross between red, pani, and custom, I love it. Why not make ten of them and send me one
hahaha. Seriously though, if you can pull this off, you could make a bundle if you had the motivation to. I could see a lot of people lining up for a cam like this. Please keep us posted. Also i like the raw aluminun look, why anodize it?

I am wondering 2 things.
1. How are you going to get HD-SDI, buy a HDMI to HDSDI converter and put it inside as well?
2. How are you going to get information for your touchscreen display? The GH2 doesn't readily output that kind of information via any of its ports.
Other then that, it looks awesome.
