was reading the forum and someone mentioned that the progressive mode is better quality then the interlaced mode because your getting 25 whole frames compared to 50 half frames or something. Is progressive a whole a lot better or only slightly i presume? Liking the 50i mode with out the jerky motion.

Progressive is higher spatial resolution (if you set the vertical detail frequency to "thin") but lower temporal resolution (jerky motion instead of fluid 50i motion).
If you like the look of 50i, and it suits your project, then shoot 50i.
25p is for a filmlike look, but that's not always appropriate for every project.

This is not meant to argue one way or the other, but to explain a few things.
If you shoot 50i, you will see interlace artifacts on a computer -- moving objects will have a "comb"-like pattern. You won't see this on a standard PAL TV, but you might on a progressive TV.
If you don't like this, you can deinterlace. But if you do, you will effectively have 25p footage, only you will probably see ghosting, and you will have given up about half the vertical resolution. You will also then have the choppier, 25p-like motion.
You can possibly deinterlace to 50p, but that's not standard with SD footage and it may not work. It could if you uprez to 720p, but the resolution will not be as sharp.
Most Web viewing (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) will only allow for 24p, 25p, or 30p footage and will convert other footage to conform to it.

Cheers.
Would the dvx100 be on a par in interlaced mode with other cameras in the same price range? I presume those cameras have the same interlace artifacts and loss of quality after you deinterlace just like the dvx.

Any interlaced camera is going to have those same interlaced artifacts, yes. The DVX is on par with the models it was sold against, such as the Sony PD150/PD170.

is 50i that much better quality then 25p
