    Hey guys, I am a freelancer filmmaker and photographer in Pittsburgh, PA. I need advice on how to get into the commercial industry. looking to shoot 30 second - 90 seconds commercials for car companies, family own businesses, corp. businesses (if possible), nightlife promoters, and etc... any advice would be great on how to get their attention and once I get their attention on what to say... also if and what to charge. Thanks.

    Be aware that whatever specific approach you take - it takes a lot of hard work.

    More specifically to you - what is your experience level? How do you want to approach it? As a freelance shooter? Lighting / camera op? (that one might be a little more specific to my market in Australia.)

    I notice that your youtube channel has over 200 videos, 1700 subscribers and 1.6 million views. Is that all you?

    Since most of those seem to be music video/club scene offerings, start reaching out to social media promoters (yes that's a job now) and communications officers at companies that trade in similar products/lifestyles. Brag about those stats. Make sure potential clients know about your built-in "tribe" you bring to the table.

    Specialize rather than diversify *at first*. You can't Barry Green it straight away. Focus on your strengths and build ahead to new sectors/styles incrementally.

    As for price...there are so many variables. So lets stick to platitudes:

    Never give a price (even the non-existent ballpark kind) on the spot.
    Never send out a quote without first sleeping on the numbers.
    And if it feels low, than it is.
    If they walk, than so be it.
    It's going to happen.
