Yeah, you have to be gay or something if you're a man to talk about this film. I haven't seen it, I just thought it was worth discussing here as I found out the film was self financed by both Channing Tatum and Steven Soderbergh for 7 million. Looks like it's poised to make 45 million dollars this weekend. To put it in perspective, that's almost twice as much as the 250 million dollar Battleship's opening weekend.

If my wife shows any interest I'll go see it with her. When I saw Tom Jones in concert, he told the husband of a hot girl he was flirting with in the front row, "Let me pump up the tires and you can ride the bike."

What's great about this movie is the expectations are set where they should be. No one is expecting an awesome story, ground breaking FX, or anything like that. People expect to see a lot of hot guys stripping with all the camera moves and lighting that make it look good and they are willing to pay the price of admission to see it on the big screen. If people want beefcake give it to 'em. If the story is good that's a bonus, but everyone I've spoken to that's interested in seeing this one said they'll be happy if there's lots of skin and they don't need a lot more than that.

As I said on twitter, they failed to work Nick the Dick in to the storyline.
    Not interested.

$7mil is actually what it was acquired for. The cost of the film was probably $2-3mil lower than that.

Someone let me know how funny this movie is. If it's in the vein of Bridesmaids, then I'll probably see it on DVD (not going alone to the theater to see a movie about male strippers...). I suspect it's probably a funny movie, with some drama thrown in -- I just need to know if it's funny/dramatic enough that I won't just be watching guys with six packs dancing around the screen for 90 minutes...

Michael; this is a hilarious movie, very funny, and in fact there is not as much guys-with-six-packs-dancing in it as you think (they pretty much showed it all in the advert). The hilarity/drama ratio is spot on in fact.

Therefore, I strongly recommend that you go to the cinema by yourself and watch it. Go on. You know you want to.

Haha. I went with some friends from work, and the theater was PACKED with women -- particularly, old women. But yeah, the movie was great. They did a good job of showing the darker side of things without getting melodramatic about it.

I liked Cody Horn; it's cool to see her moving up from that way-too-brief role on The Office. Olivia Munn stole her share of scenes, though. <grin>

Completely disagree. It's not a comedy and there is LOTS of six pack stripping. Movie was ok. Definitely directed cheaply (long takes that aren't great {note I usually love long takes} though was made on a low budget so not bothersome.
