Sony a57 Importing 50p 28M into Final Cut???

Ive just got the brilliant Sony a57 mostly for shooting sports such as basketball and football but ive ran into one major setback!!
i use Mac and final cut pro 7,X to edit my footage but for some reason final cut does not recognize the 50p 28m (PS) files!! it recognizes all the other 4 formats (50i 24m,17m, 25p 24m,17m) but not the format i need most for sports and some slow-mo, which is the best resolution at 50p format !!

has anyone experienced this ? any solutions? im going crazy with this now!!

    I APPRECIATE ANY HELP!!

Pavvy, Everything I've read on the a57 (and similar, like the a77) says FCP doesn't recognize 60p or 50p from the Sony. However, I read Clipwrap is supposed to work, and then you can bring the files into FCP.

thanks so much for respondin.....so it does look like its a general problem and something Sony has to fix ASAP. i even tried it on the new final cut pro x assuming that it wouldve been fixed but its the same problem.

Theres quite a few programs out there like clipwrap but whichever one u use your always bound to lose quality and that sucks!!!

Actually, from my limited and feeble understanding, Clipwrap is the best resource. It just takes your files and puts it in a mov wrapper -- basically, turning the files into something FCP can read. It shouldn't reencode everything or cause much (if any) quality loss.

Sorry to bring out the question again, but have you solved it?

When I work with a Sony A77 I can import the clips into FCPX and the software recognize the 50p movies with no issue.

Have you noticed the same issue with the Sony Nex 5N/R/6/7?

This could be an issue because of the AVCHD vers. 2, which is not compatible with FCPX.

I found this article on Photographybay.com. It explains how to solve the issue.
I really hope Apple will update FCPX soon.

great post Andy - ive checked the link and yes it is helpful but using another software to convert videos compressing the quality is not ideal and definitley not fast enough. its a drag if you have to convert your videos before you can edit them.......best way is for it to capture the 60fps videos straight out of the card
