I've been trying to pick a couple of these up used, and a CL256, but no one is selling right now and the website won't be in stock until August. Anyone know anywhere else they're sold? Google searches have revealed nothing.
Thank you.

Thanks for your interest. Cool Lights are only sold manufacturer direct at our website www.coollights.biz. The reason they aren't in stock now is because there are new models coming at some point in the near future and we just decided to stop making the older ones. Completely different look, better LEDs, thinner, lighter... That's about all I can say for now till we're closer to release.

No they haven't been shown yet at all. Your still seeing the 1st generation models on the website now. The only ones we have left in stock at this point are LED 1200 single daylight and 1200 bi-color. I doubt we'll hit August but we are trying. Very ambitious, lots of new models to make all at the same time, so more challenging and likely to take longer.

Ok. I'll hold out on them and see what happens with the new models. Hopefully I can get in on the first wave if they're as good or better than these, which I'm sure they will be.

AAdynTech ECO Punch Plus LED Light
After seeing this jaw dropping light my first thought was ok Richard its time for Coolights to step up to the plate and manufacture this light for 1/3 the price.

The optics on something like that have got to be incredibly complex to do it right. Probably would take two different kinds of lenses to get rid of the multiple shadows problem of multiple point sources. Condenser and fresnel lenses both is what I would bet is the secret. Otherwise, all the LED fresnels I've seen mostly just use one large LED to try and avoid any problems with multiple shadows, but you end up with something very large but not all that powerful because of that.

I know this is derailing the thread a bit, but I'd be very keen to hear your thoughts on LEP lights Richard? Have you given any thought to manufacturing your own?

I have indeed. I got an evaluation kit from Luxim to try out. What I found was a very weak source, which yielded an output similar to our $459 CDM 150w fresnel, but that draws about 290w (so double the draw of the 150w CDM) but when you add up the final costs would come in somewhere around the price of our 575w HMI Fresnel ($2500 range). Forget about dimming too, the light goes way too noticeably blue when dimming. And because of the form factor, adding a mirror to it is very challenging.
Just doesn't make sense to me so I don't believe that technology is not going to go mainstream. Very disappointing. Perhaps if they can work on increasing the output, lumens per watt more efficient and finally bring the price down somewhat, then perhaps they'll have a winner there. I really feel HMI is still the king for daylight projection vs. cost till they can work on some of these shortcomings. LEDs do hold a lot of promise for taking the place that many want LEP to take.
