Wow! Thanks everyone. I'm very humbled that the script was well-received.

Thanks for putting these fests on! They're great ways to further develop as writers.

    Congratulations to everyone who entered.

    Congrats to the top three!

All the scripts were great. Let's keep the fests rolling!

Apologies to the writers I could not review in time. I had emergency eye surgery last week to repair a detached retina. Computers are a nono for me until July 4th.

I was able to rate all the scripts though.

Wow! Thanks guys. Means a lot. To share the podium on the strength of story in spite of a writing style that needs some work is truly gratifying. However, the true value has been the feedback. I've been struggling along reading the 'rules' and trying to convert my thinking from prose to screenplay for over 6 months. I've had more pennies drop in the last few days of commentary than it that entire time.

Congrats to Chris and Craig. I'm sure it was close. Other favourites included The First Night, sucked me in completely to the point I didn't even notice I was reading and didn't care if I didn't entirely know what was going on. If the alien content had been stronger who knows. The Find needs a lot of work but it was the most imaginative piece. If the screen version halfway matched my mental imagery I'd be interested to see it. Invasion was hands down the most fun. Buddy Bear would have been a serious contender had it been in on time.

Signal arguably had the best twist. The only story I can think of that has done it before is hitchhikers guide (miscalculation of scale: dog swallowing the invasion fleet) - since all twists have been done before, that is rare. Once explained Precipice had some great ideas in it, if only we had been able to get that out of the script! Nothing a rewrite can't fix. And Containment for a last minute (or was that last second) effort reads totally professionally right off the bat. For a bit of brain fluff it has a totally solid core idea, just needed Cord (fantastic name) to be more than an observer.

Any of these entries could have won if the feedback had come before the judging. Hopefully we can get a bigger turn out for the next fest! I'm itching to apply all the advice I've received.

And a final note: Alex, a major participant even without a submission. Your comments have been incredibly helpful to me. I have drawn tremendous wisdom not just from your comments directed at me but of all your commentaries in this fest. I am so looking forward to reading one of yours in the future. You have given some tantalising glimpses of your style by way of your suggested alterations. I'm sure all will join me in the call for three cheers for Alex!

I second that three cheers for Alex! In fact I'm very grateful for all of the comments - on my scripts and on the scripts of all of the other writers. It's been a tremendous learning experience. Also, James and Chris - I am thrilled to be in such esteemed company. Both of your scripts were fantastic and I enjoyed both of them very much. I look forward to many more fests coming up - in fact, one is the next one and can it feature a couple of young women? I met some fantastic and attractive actresses on my last gig and I'm trying to figure out something to write for them.... grin. Again, thanks!

    Craig

I had an idea for the next fest yesterday that would require a girl:

    GODARD FEST

You get a girl and a gun, now make a movie.

REQUIRED CHARACTER: A girl - must be a significant character
KEY PROP: A gun - must be integral to the plot

CHALLENGE: To make it interesting STRIPPER RULES apply. No character may lay a hand directly on girl or gun, bare-handed or gloved. The girl and the gun are not restricted from touching other characters.

LOOPHOLE: Exception - rather than risk low participation, if you just can't keep your hands off then Stripper Rules only apply to the present. Flashback/flash forward/memory/dream/fantasy sequences are exempted from the no touching rule.

    What do you think?
