I'd like to render my HD .mov files (from short film) into h264 for vimeo upload. I tried but could not open the final render with Quick Time. Opening rendere files has been a hassle.

If you're going to upload to Vimeo, it doesn't have to be h.264 or Quicktime. Your best bet is Sony or MainConcept AVC.

Sony AVC and Mainconcept use the H.264 Codec (so dose Quicktime).

.MOV is the container (like .MP4 or .AVI) different codecs can be used in various containers.

Confusing I know. Vegas will render the move out to whatever format you tell it to. For Youtube and Vimeo I agree with DJ and use Sony-AVC or Mainconcept. Here is a tutorial video I made that should help you out. http://youtu.be/jADhisvtjo0

Wow. Thanks so much for the information! I'll check out your tutorial. I hope it includes which AVC setting because there are so many to choose from. Which .avc render option should I choose. When "match settings" is selected SVP highlights the AVC HD Blue Ray render. I've tried that, but can't open the .avc rendered file when it's done, either in Quicktime, Windows media or VLC player. What do I need to open the .avc rendered file and do you know if it can be downloaded to vimeo or youtube. Thanks for any insights given. I also donloaded SV HD Platinum because I read in posts that in renders .mov files better. I'm desperate.

AVC stands for "advanced video codec" Which basically means h.264. I've never rendered a file to "***.AVC". I don't believe that is a valid file extension?!? Is it? I'm not at my computer right now.

Anyway, when I use main concept or Sony AVC I always use the file extension .MP4. MP4 is a multimedia container for video. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mp4

I believe it is. I rendered to AVC and it came out as an .avc extension. I wasn't even able to open it. I'll try again. Rendering takes hours and I'm trying different options. BTW, great tutorial!
