Piff, if your camera has the v1.1 firmware, you can set the camera to "HBR" or the High Bitrate Record setting which has 30p as an option. This is Panasonics' own firmware and is available as a free update from the GH2 website.

As is stated above, HBR is 30p. That's what you need. On a side note, Panasonic has made it a major pain in the, um, butt to figure out what each resolution, frame rate and so on is represented in the menu. HBR, FSH, SH, 24H, 24L, WTF? I've been using the GH1 and GH2 for 3 years now, and I still find myself saying, "Wait... am I in the right mode right now?"

how do I check what firmware I have? I had it set to MANUAL MOVIE MODE
AVCHD (1080i) which tells me its interlace, obviously I dont want that.
AVCHD (720p) is this 30P?
MOTION JPEG - from what I understand, this is an old codec , not as good as AVCHD
I do not see a 30p option when on HBR, the REC MODE AND RECORD QUALITY are grayed out and I cant choose!
also, back to my original question, since the footage was recorded at 60i, how can I make it 30p?

magic bullet frames or photoshop deinterlace with interpolation (batch processing jpg or tiff files)

best way to turn gh2 60i into 30p
